Dhaka Stock Exchange Hits All-Time High as Foreign Investment Surges

The Dhaka Stock Exchange benchmark DSEX crossed 8,500 points this week — an all-time high — fuelled by record foreign portfolio inflows and robust quarterly earnings from listed garment and pharmaceutical companies.

What's Driving the Rally

Foreign portfolio investment rose 40% year-on-year to $1.2 billion in the first half of 2026, as global fund managers rotated into frontier markets. Bangladesh's GDP growth of 6.8%, a stable taka and improving corporate governance scores attracted long-term institutional investors.

Sector Leaders

The garment and textile sector led gains with a 28% rise in earnings, while pharmaceutical companies beat forecasts on the back of generic drug export growth to Africa and Southeast Asia. The telecom sector saw a 22% surge after regulatory approval for 5G licence assignments.

Caution Signs

Analysts warn that high valuation multiples and thin trading volumes outside the top 30 stocks represent risks. The Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission has flagged concerns about speculative trading in small-cap counters.
