Bangladesh Garment Exports Cross $50 Billion Milestone
The RMG sector set a new annual export record of $51.2 billion, powered by diversification into technical textiles, sustainable fashion and man-made fibre products.
Bangladesh's ready-made garment sector has set a new annual export record of $51.2 billion, crossing the historic $50 billion threshold for the first time. The milestone was achieved on the back of diversification into higher-value products and new market penetration.
Beyond Basic T-Shirts
Traditional basic knitwear now accounts for just 54% of exports, down from 72% five years ago. Technical textiles (sportswear, protective gear, medical textiles), sustainable fashion and man-made fibre products are the fastest-growing segments.
New Markets
Exports to the United States grew 18% to $9.3 billion while Japan emerged as a key new destination with 34% growth. Intra-Asian exports — to India, Vietnam and Indonesia — doubled over the period as Bangladesh climbed the value chain.
