Election Commission Finalises Digital Voting Roadmap for 2026

Bangladesh's Election Commission has approved a phased EVM rollout and biometric voter verification for 300 constituencies in the 2026 general election, marking the country's most ambitious electoral modernisation effort.

Digital Safeguards

The EVMs will incorporate end-to-end encryption, paper audit trails and real-time result transmission to a central secure server. Independent cybersecurity firms from South Korea and Germany have been contracted to audit the system.

Opposition Response

While the ruling coalition has welcomed the move, opposition parties have called for broader stakeholder consultations and a pilot in local government elections before the national rollout.
