The Journey
The 22-year-old from Sylhet took up competitive swimming at age 12 in a club pool and secured a scholarship to train in Yokohama under Japanese Olympic coach Kazunori Tomita. Four years of gruelling training preceded this breakthrough.

"I want to show the world that Bangladesh can produce elite swimmers," said Islam after the race. "This is for every child in Bangladesh who wants to swim."
